Choir Byzantium

Slavic Choir Byzantium, conducted by Alesia Shayeva, sing beautiful Russian-Orthodox liturgical songs and Slavic folk songs. The repertoire also includes Russian Easter songs.

Lecture recital Zaremba

Pianist Olga de Kort-Koulikova plays unknown piano works of Nikolay Zaremba (1821–1879). She also lectures about this recently rediscovered Russian composer. Zaremba was the music theory and composing teacher of Tchaikovsky at the St Petersburg Conservatory. Out of modesty he didn’t play his own compositions in public, therefore they remained unknown.

Roots

Apart from Russian songs the Amsterdam choir Roots, conducted by Herbert de Jonge, also sings classical liturgical songs.

Wednesday 22 May, 10 am – 5 pm, Auditorium

Peter the Great, a Contemporary Tsar

Audiovisual Students of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy exhibit their new work in a video presentation in the Auditorium. They took inspiration from the current Peter the Great exhibition. Their work provides new perspectives on the life of the great Russian Tsar.

Sunday 26 May, 14 pm church hall

Russian Passion

An entirely Russian programme, performed by two top Russian musicians. In 2010 violist Alexey Naumenko and pianist Misha Fomin formed a musical duo. They play works of Rachmaninov and Prokofiev, among others.
