Courtyard garden

The Hermitage’s beautiful courtyard garden is the largest courtyard garden surrounded by a single building to be found in the city centre of Amsterdam. It used to be a bleachfield, a place where laundry was left out to dry while the residents gardened and took care of the chickens. Now it is an oasis of tranquillity that anyone can enjoy, free of charge, whether under the old chestnut trees or on the lawns. If the weather is nice, the kiosk will be open and you can enjoy a lovely cup of tea or coffee, lunch, or a glass of wine on the terrace.
